Adding a device by stream URL
Add a device that provides a video stream by directly entering an RTSP or HTTP URL. This method is useful for registering third-party cameras, encoders, NVR channels, and other devices that do not support standard protocols such as ONVIF or SUNAPI for live monitoring and recording.
Devices added by stream URL are identified by the dedicated icon
in the device tree and on the map.
Note:
- Devices added by stream URL support video streaming only and do not support snapshots.
- If no secondary stream is configured, the client displays NO DATA when a secondary stream is requested. The primary stream is not used as a fallback. For information about configuring a secondary stream, see Device > Stream settings.
- Devices added by stream URL do not support server-side motion detection (server-side MD).
- Depending on the specifications of the RTSP device, the video information provided by the RTSP stream may not match the actual video information.
To add a device by stream URL
- Click Settings > Devices.
- On the device settings page, click Add device > Stream URL.
- In the Add device window, under Search with and add to, select the server to add the device to.
- The server list appears only when multiple servers are connected. If only 1 server is connected, the server list is not displayed.
- Enter the primary stream in Stream URL.
- If necessary, enter the username and password in the Authentication credentials section. Note: For security, avoid using URLs that include credentials (e.g., rtsp://user:pass@ip...). Use the provided input fields. Only Digest authentication or addresses that do not require authentication are supported.
- Click Search to verify the stream connection.
- Review the discovered device information, select the devices to add, and click Add N selected.
- Click Finish.
Limitations
- Semantic search is not supported.
- Supported only in event rules for motion detection, device connection, and device disconnection triggers.
