Configuring video settings
BLAZE supports primary and secondary streams. The primary stream is the default video stream that typically provides high-resolution video and is applied to live viewing and recording. The secondary stream provides lower-resolution video and is applied to multi-split live viewing and continuous recording. By providing video in two streams, the network resources can be used efficiently. BLAZE provides the user with live or recorded video by adjusting the resolution according to the usage environment based on the values set in Devices > Video.
Note: Changing the camera's video settings affects the quality of live and recorded video. When changing the settings, please ensure they are appropriate for your environment.
To configure video settings
- Click Settings > Devices.
- In the Device settings page, select the desired device from the list of devices.
- Click the Video tab.
- Set the primary stream for video.
- When finished, click Apply.
Primary stream
- Codec: Set the video compression method. H264 uses lower bandwidth than previous compression standards and supports most devices and browsers. H265 compresses video at the same quality level using lower bandwidth but requires higher-spec devices, so device or browser limitations may apply.
- Settings: H265 (default), H264Note: For BLAZE appliance, the default codec setting is H264.
- Selecting H265 can reduce data usage by about 10% compared to H264, making it useful when you need to use disk space for recorded video efficiently. However, the PC running BLAZE must have higher specifications to monitor multiple videos simultaneously at the split-screen quality provided by H264.
- Settings: H265 (default), H264
- Resolution: Set the video resolution. Higher resolutions yield better quality video.
- Settings: Highest resolution (default), 1920x1080, 640x360, Lowest resolution
- The highest resolution supported by the camera is set as the default.
- FPS: Set the number of frames displayed per second. More frames per second result in smoother video playback but increase file sizes.
- The default FPS for the primary stream is 15.
Note: If FPS is set below 1 fps, decoding may be delayed resulting in unsmooth video playback. It is recommended to set FPS to at least 1 fps. - Bitrate: Set the amount of video data transmitted per second. Higher bitrate settings deliver higher-quality video but increase file sizes; choose a value appropriate for the resolution.
- Settings: Best, High, Medium (default), Low
- Selecting Custom bitrate allows a bitrate value to be entered manually instead of using the system-suggested values. The allowable bitrate range depends on the selected codec and resolution, and is determined based on the recommended BPP (Bits Per Pixel) for the chosen settings.
- Bitrate control: Select the method of controlling the amount of video data. The default is VBR.
- CBR: Constant Bitrate transmits the data for all frames at a fixed size. When CBR is selected, a target bitrate is set to determine the size of the data to be transmitted. Because CBR transmits data at a fixed size, it is easy to predict the overall data size of the system, which allows for stable system operation.
- VBR: Variable Bitrate transmits frames without fixing data size within a maximum bitrate, conserving storage and bandwidth while maintaining quality; however, complex scenes may increase network load.
- GOV length: Set the GOV length. The maximum GOV length varies with FPS and the default value is 30. Set a short GOV length for unstable network environments and a long GOV length for environments with narrow network bandwidth.
- GOV (Group Of Video) is a set of video frames for H264/H265 compression, representing frames from an I-frame to the frame before the next I-frame. GOV consists of I-frames, P-frames, and B-frames.
- I-frames are key frames that contain a complete image. P-frames only contain the changes from the previous frame, reducing the amount of data. B-frames are the most efficient, as they only contain the changes between the previous and subsequent frames, using the least data. Therefore, a longer GOV length reduces the number of I-frames and the overall data size. Conversely, a shorter GOV length increases the number of I-frames and the data size. Note: BLAZE does not support B-frames. Check the codec settings on the connected camera's webpage to disable B-frames. For more information, see the camera manual.

Secondary stream
The secondary stream is automatically set to the camera's lowest resolution. The default settings for the secondary stream are as follows:
- Codec: H264
- Resolution: Video resolution
- The resolution is set to closely match 640x360 while keeping the primary stream's aspect ratio. For example, if the primary stream is set to 1920x1080 (16:9), the secondary stream is automatically set to 640x360 (16:9).
- FPS: 7
- Bitrate: 512 kbps
WiseStream
Toggle WiseStream on to automatically adjust bitrate based on activity in the video, reducing network and storage usage. WiseStream mode relies on motion detection, reducing bitrate when there is no motion. AI-based WiseStream mode relies on object detection, reducing bitrate when there are no significant objects detected.
